Masonicare Hospice Volunteers David and Suzanne Foulkes of Waterford Receive D.O.V.E. Awards - 5/7/2009 Norwich, CT, May 7, 2009........In celebration of National Volunteer Week, Masonicare Home Health & Hospice honored more than 300 community volunteers who cumulatively contributed thousands of volunteer hours to the hospice program during the past year. Awards were presented at special recognition events held at several offices throughout Connecticut. At a special award event held to recognize the extraordinary volunteers assigned through the program's Norwich office, every honoree who contributed 1, 5, 15, 20 or 25 years of service was recognized for his or her years of service as well as volunteers in the distinguished ‘300 Club" who gave over 300 hours to the program. All volunteers received a gift of appreciation from Masonicare. D.O.V.E. (Dedicated to Outstanding Volunteer Excellence) recipients also received a uniquely designed D.O.V.E. award pin, a special gift chosen just for them, and a certificate of appreciation. Mr. & Mrs. David Foulkes of Waterford received the highly regarded Dedicated to Outstanding Volunteer Excellence (D.O.V.E.) award. The office gives the D.O.V.E. award yearly to one volunteer who exhibits exceptional dedication to the program and exemplifies the true spirit of hospice care. This year, however, David and Suzanne Foulkes received the honor jointly for both their individual and combined involvement as volunteers. Deborah Richards, Director of Volunteers for Masonicare's Home Health & Hospice, and Faith Grist and Laura Kroll, volunteer coordinators for the Eastern hospice team, praised Mr. & Mrs. Foulkes for their compassion and dedication to the hospice program. "Both David and Suzanne are wonderful volunteers - creative and imaginative people who are great advocates for our program. They attend many monthly in services, always contributing ideas and suggestions that help with recruitment and program growth. David is a gifted musician, soothing his patients with calming guitar music; Suzanne is very artistic, and has even created a life review scrapbook of photos for one of her patients. Individually and as a couple, they have truly made a difference in the lives of patients and families."
