Michele Tarantino of Masonicare Health Center Re-Certified as Low Vision Specialist by ACVREP --- One of Only Two Certified Low Vision Therapists in the State - 3/16/2009

Wallingford, CT, March 16, 2009....   Michele Tarantino, MPH, OTR/L, CLVT, Assistant Director of Outpatient Rehabilitation Services, Audiology and the Low Vision program at Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, recently received re-certification from The Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP).  She is one of only two low vision therapists in the state to have earned this professional certification through ACVREP.  The organization's rigorous certification program ensures that those who earn this distinction demonstrate the highest level of competency that is unmatched in the field.  

Ms. Tarantino has been with Masonicare Health Center for more than 10 years, providing low vision clinical services and support to patients, residents, and the community through the Masonicare's comprehensive Low Vision Rehabilitation Center.  She currently facilitates low vision support groups for residents of Wallingford and surrounding communities and has made numerous presentations to the community and medical professionals on how low vision, or partial site, can affect quality of life and what can be done to help.  She serves on the Advisory Committee for the Connecticut Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.

Ms. Tarantino is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a BS degree in Occupational Therapy, and also received a Masters in Public Health from Southern Connecticut State University.  She and her daughter reside in Wallingford.
