"The Art of Hospice Care" Traveling Art Exhibit on Display During April at New Canaan Library - Grand Opening April 1 - 3/11/2009

Norwalk, CT, March 11, 2009....... Masonicare Home Health & Hospice has announced its traveling hospice art exhibit, "Completing the Journey - The Art of Hospice Care," will be on display at the New Canaan Public Library, 151 Main Street, throughout the month of April.  The public is cordially invited to attend the opening celebration, co-sponsored by the New Canaan Public Library, which will be held in the library's Lamb Room on Wednesday, April 1, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

On Monday evening, April 20, from 7 to 8 pm, the public is also invited to attend a special presentation, "Exploring the Many Benefits of Hospice Care," by Dr. Mark Dam, hospice medical director for the Norwalk office of Masonicare Home Health & Norwalk.  Dr. Dam will speak on the comprehensive services hospice provides and how hospice care can help both patients and their loved ones get the most out of their limited time together.

The art exhibit is an extraordinary and powerful multi-media display depicting the use of the arts in hospice care.  It is a collection of paintings, drawings, photography, poetry, shadow boxes and more that have been done with, for and about ordinary people at the end of their lives.  According to Sheila Tincher, expressive arts specialist with the Norwalk hospice team of Masonicare Home Health & Hospice, the goal of the exhibit is to show the public the incredible work that is being done by terminally ill patients and their caregivers and how it can contribute to the process of emotional healing for family members and friends as well.

The traveling exhibit, which premiered in October 2006 at the NOMA Gallery in Middletown, has been on display in several venues throughout Connecticut, including art galleries and healthcare facilities.

For additional information, or to learn how you can showcase the art exhibit, contact Paula Bruns in the Norwalk office at 203-831-8882.   Masonicare Home Health & Hospice is an affiliate of Wallingford-based Masonicare, Connecticut's leading not-for-profit provider of senior healthcare and retirement living.
