Ashlar Village Residents Contribute to Wallingford's Holiday for Giving - 12/15/2008

Wallingford, CT, December 15, 2008........Due to the poor economy and the thousands of people currently out of work, this year's holiday season won't be very merry for many people throughout Connecticut.  But thanks to the generosity of many in the Wallingford community, including residents of Masonicare at Ashlar Village, thousands of dollars have been raised for this year's annual Holiday for Giving program.  Ashlar Village residents were eager to join in the fundraising efforts, collecting an additional $650 for the program.  This year, Wallingford's Holiday for Giving program is celebrating 40 years of creating "Holiday Magic."  
           
The Holiday for Giving Program is a community organization run by volunteers.  It helps Wallingford families facing hardships by "putting food on their tables, smiles on their children's faces, and joy in their hearts."  The program functions solely on donations from individuals, organizations and local businesses. All donations received are given directly back to those in need in the Wallingford community. 
           
Ashlar Village resident Roy Hucke, along with employees Kerry Hatch and Melanie Anastasio of the recreation department, went on a "shopping spree" at Wallingford's Walmart store, using the money raised to purchase a variety of toys for children of all ages that were then donated to the program.

Kerry Hatch, recreation manager for Ashlar Village, thanked residents for their generosity in donating toys, food and money to the cause.  "Working together with the Wallingford community helps to ensure that each child in Wallingford is afforded a nutritious meal and will receive something special on Christmas morning."
