Press Release
Monthly Low Vision Support Group Celebrates Fifth Anniversary - 12/4/2008 Wallingford, CT, December 4, 2008......The Low Vision Support Group held monthly at the Wallingford Senior Center recently celebrated their fifth anniversary of providing education and support to individuals with low vision. Masonicare's Low Vision Rehabilitation Program at Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford and the Wallingford Senior Center sponsor the support group. According to Michele Tarantino, MPH, OTR/L, CLVT of Masonic Healthcare Center, and Eileen Flynn, MSW, MS, with the Wallingford Senior Center, facilitators of the monthly meetings, the group was established to help individuals in the community who have been diagnosed with low vision. Low vision, which is vision loss that can no longer be corrected by surgery or glasses, can range from minimal loss to near total blindness. The vision loss is permanent and can interfere with the performance of daily tasks such as reading mail, paying bills, and reading dials on a stove. To learn more about the Low Vision Support Group, which meets at the Wallingford Senior Center on the third Friday of every month, or for information about the Low Vision Rehabilitation Program at Masonic Healthcare Center, please contact Michele Tarantino at 203-679-6589 or email mtarantino@masonicare.org.
