Masonicares Summer Olympics Spark Competitive Spirit in Masonic Healthcare Centers Residents - 8/14/2008
Complete with an Olympic "torch" and colorful flags from several countries adorning the main hallway, the event gave team members and their cheerleaders the opportunity to socialize and compete in a friendly competition with their peers by trying their hand at a host of games developed especially for seniors. Beatrice Coulombe, Masonic Healthcare Center's Vice President for Administration, Rev. Ray Cooley, and Wallingford Mayor William Dickinson, offered opening remarks and encouragement to the excited participants as they kicked off the competition. Spectators -- including staff, employees and family members -- cheered on the seniors as they tried their hand at a host of unique games developed especially for the group, including a softball throw, bocce ball toss, target shooting and hockey. At the conclusion of the games, dozens of people gathered in the auditorium for the special closing ceremony. Congratulations and kudos were extended to the 32 "Olympians" who participated, and all were presented with a "gold" medal in recognition of their efforts.
