A Gift of Flowers Brings Smiles Galore to Masonic Healthcare Center's Residents - 8/1/2008
The program is a coordinated effort by thousands of Teleflora member florists throughout the country who volunteer their time to create and deliver their signature "Be Happy®" mugs for Make Someone Smile® Week, which first began in 2000. Teleflora donates the yellow keepsake mugs, which are delivered to patients in Veteran's hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and this year, Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford was delighted to be the Connecticut facility chosen to receive the floral arrangements. Local wholesalers and growers supplied the fresh flowers, which included yellow roses and daisies, and local florists volunteered their time to create and deliver the beautiful bouquets. Masonic Healthcare Center was extremely pleased to receive 250 floral arrangements for their residents. In honor of the occasion, the Therapeutic Recreation Department declared July 23 to be "Smile Day" at Masonic, where special Smiley Face decorations and colorful balloons adorned the building. Susan Wall of the Connecticut Unit of Teleflora said the program's goal is to give people a little something extra to smile about through the gift of flowers. "This is a real team effort to bring joy to people and help brighten their day. I think we get as much pleasure from participating in Make Someone Smile® Week as the residents get from receiving the flowers!" # # # Penny O'Neill |
