Ashlar of Newtown To Host Free Community Health Fair On Thursday, August 7 - 7/21/2008 Newtown, CT, July 21, 2008...... The healthcare professionals at Ashlar of Newtown, Masonicare's skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, know that maintaining optimal health and well-being is not always easy, especially for the many people living busy and often hectic lives. That's why they're sponsoring an educational Health Fair for the community, which will be held at Lockwood Lodge at Ashlar of Newtown, 139 Toddy Hill Road, on Thursday, August 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adults of any age can benefit from attending this free, comprehensive health fair, which will offer important information on a wide range of healthcare topics, including an overview of the many programs and services available to adults in the community. The fair will feature special presentations by the following healthcare professionals: · 10:30 a.m. Falls in the Elderly: Causes and Prevention - Dr. Joel Feigenson, Medical Director for Ashlar of Newtown's Short-term Rehabilitation Program, will offer practical tips and recommendations on how to avoid unnecessary accidents and injuries in the home. · 12:30 p.m. Acupuncture and Accupressure - An Overview -- Dr. Diane Smith, Ashlar of Newtown's Medical Director, will dicuss both Acupuncture and Accupressure, alternative medical treatments that have grown in popularity in the U.S. over the past two decades. A host of vendors and healthcare professionals will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on any number of health-related topics. Connecticut VNA, Masonicare's home health and hospice affiliate, will provide complimentary blood pressure screenings. An occupational therapist from the Low Vision program at Masonic Healthcare Center, Masonicare's skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in Wallingford, will explain how the Low Vision program can help individuals with vision loss and demonstrate some of the optical and non-optical devices available to make the most of remaining vision. Additional healthcare organizations, non-profits and businesses will be on site, including Masonicare Community Services, the Connecticut Alzheimer's Association, A-Z Medical Equipment and Supplies, Glen Worth Financial, Dr. Joel Segalman of Newtown Foot Care, an elder law attorney from Cohn & Wolf, and more. A complimentary lunch will be provided, and tours of Ashlar of Newtown and Lockwood Lodge will be available Reservations for the August 7 health fair are requested.
