Male Residents at Ashlar Village Recognize "Mothers and Others" with Special Brunch to Celebrate Mothers Day - 5/28/2008
Three years ago, resident Jack Kingsbury thought it would be nice to recognize and honor all of the women who live at Ashlar Village on Mothers Day, and the idea of hosting a "Mothers and Others" brunch was born. This year, under Kingsbury's direction, an all-male team of about 30 dedicated volunteers got together to prepare the entire menu for their 120 female guests. The men were busy chopping, baking and mixing, using many original recipes that appear in Boston Tea Parties, a book published by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. A delightful menu resulted, with an assortment of items that included everything from fresh fruit compote and delicious sandwiches to wonderful desserts such as orange/apricot cookies, raspberry/meringue tarts, and chocolate bread. To make the day even more special, all of the volunteer "waitstaff" donned white shirts and black slacks to serve their guests in style. Vocalist Cynthia Robinson, accompanied on piano by Will Duchon, provided musical entertainment following the brunch. The many "mothers and others" honored thoroughly enjoyed the day and expressed their appreciation for this special recognition from their "fellow" residents. # # # Penny O'Neill |
